Successfully produced one video each weekday this week… here’s today’s:

Why Flash Player?

I know… I’m not Peter Sellers. I’m driven to make one-video-a-day however:

Why Flex/Air Launch Party Video?

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

I’m not sure if this video needs a ton of explanation, but it’s my remix of the opening to a video produced to coincide with the long-awaited launch of Flex 3 and Air 1.0. Also, it’s done in the style from Mystery Science Theater.

Why Photoshop?

I’m trying to keep up the one-a-day pace… but, while I think this one works, I do think I need to bring them back on topic.

My Chumby article on Adobe.com

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

I wrote an article that gives a good overview of how you build Flash widgets for a Chumby. It covers how things fit together… the range of available features… and gives you a solid foundation in understanding how to tap into the built-in (motion sensing) accelerometer.

I still have mixed feelings on how successful the Chumby may become–but I have three of them here… so I guess that tells you something.

Whitespace problem in PHP

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Because I’m such a good boy, I dutifully upgraded my WordPress install (basically replacing all the php files except the wp-config.php). Naturally, this means first backing up the old files as well as the mySQL database. And, because I’m not a masochist, I replaced the >500 files using an automated process–namely, Dreamweaver’s site feature.

Naturally, it was totally foobar’d when I finished. The weird thing was that it was STILL messed up after retrying… rolling back… even restoring the database (which I should have known was unnecessary as site only failed when I tried to log in). I saw messages at the top of the admin login to the effect of:

“Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by¬† output started” (and it referenced the wp-config.php as well as the wp-admin.php file).

It turns out to be a relatively common problem where extra lines or spaces were added to a file–in this case, the wp-config.php file had an extra line after the “?>” at the end. Hopefully this can help someone searching.

Why onAIR Bus Tour?

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

You can see my recorded answer to that question below–but in case you don’t know, Adobe is touring Europe! As much as it seemed like a goofy idea at first… I mean, a road trip with a bunch of geeks is probably great fun the first hour or two… but, some of those legs looked grueling. At least in Europe things are closer together. When they came to Portland I was pretty impressed with the whole operation. I didn’t expect much but they did really well. Why I felt compelled to play some pranks on them I don’t know… but, check out this fake ticket I put on their bus:

So, here’s my video:
